Am looking to purchase a good camera for under $500-600 with lens....Are the sony A200-3--350's dslr cameras any good??? or should i stick with nikon series 40--80????? just dont want to buy the wrong thing..im not a professional photographer just want really good crisp pics...

Not familiar with those Sony's but love my Nikon. Lots of accessories available for it from different manufacturers and great quality. What you want to do with it will determine which model to get. I have the D50 and it works fine.

I'm a huge nikon fan. I shoot with the D50 and I get some great shots with it.

With that said I'm not really happy with what they have done to make the camera bodies smaller. The lenses that they've been making for years are no longer compatible with the 40s and 60s. That drives the lens price up and selection down. If you're going to stick with 1 or 2 lenses it's fine, otherwise it hurts. IMO, it's worth it to drop the extra cash to get an 80 if you plan on getting more lenses in the future. You can actually make the extra cost back up with the purchase of the first additional lens (because of the amount of used stuff out there).

Sony makes a good product, but their equipment list is very limited. I'd just as soon buy used nikon or canon rather than sony, to be honest.

My wife got a nikon d40 and it takes awesome pics.Easy to use out of the box then lots of stuff to learn too.

So sony..is not a good idea......Im looking to take pics of my fish, my pond, my soon 2-b newborn son, nature, landscapes etc...So what is the best for me with out spending a arm and a leg..

Sony is not a great idea if you're looking to expand your equipment list. Don't get me wrong, they make a good product. But they're new to the dslr scene and it will take them a few years to develop different lenses and flashes and such.

Go to a photography store and try a few models in your hands. Tell the customer service rep what you want to do with the camera. Not a walmart or best buy, but an actual photography store. Once you know what you like, then look for the bargains, either in a used model you might find locally or something new you can get on the internet at a reduced price.

I could tell you to buy nikon and the next guy will tell you canon. It's for you to decide.

I say get a D50 as a starter camera, that way, lenses would be interchangeable. It will only cost you around $400 with a kit lens. Then if you decide to upgrade, you will not have a hard time selling the D50.

Craigslist is your friend.

Like most photographers say, its not about the body, its all about the glass and the photographer.

I agree totally, but put a lot more emphasis on it being the person holding the camera:)
