Dumbest thing you've done in/to aquariums?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My catfish smashed the heater against the side of the tank while my hand was in it, and yes it was plugged in but not on. Pulled the plug and cursed out that catfish!

my worst mistake was b4 i started buying fish. i washed out a big 200+ gallon tank and stood it up out side to dry. i came back the next day and it was fallen over cracked down the middle

:jaw::jaw::jaw:Dumbest thing I did was ... buying 3 black aro's , and 2 jardinis and mixed em up in my 20 gal tank lolz .... I was prepping my 300 gal thinking it would be ok for few days for them to stay there together overcrowded yes... dumb yes lolz ... well lesson learned 3 black aro died

cause of death

1. jumped.
2. beaten up 2 death
3. gill problem then i tried operating on it like the china man did on youtube but i
messed up lolz i did the surgery well but i dipped him twice on the solution makling him sleep then dumping him to a newly cycled tank with a jardini... 3 black aro's down the drain... and then.....

2 weeks ago got me a nice tigrinus catfish i bought it at a local LFS... lil tig jumped forgot to fix the damn lid.... :nilly: my friend at local LFS wont sell me damn fishes till i get a new lid lolz ... which i ordered and imma pick it this sunday ....:screwy:

lol. ive dropped so many electrican things in water and gottwen shocked. got shocked by 3, 250 watt metal halides at the s ame time. tht still wasnt as bad as my t5s. cracked the4 bottoom outta a 20gl. put a 9 inch needlefish in and a 4 inch oscar ate him. the list goes on and on.

2 dumb mistakes...

1) coated real dried bamboo sticks with "waterproof" clear glue. I had bamboo posts in my betta tank that were rotting. I decided to seal them with this glue. I put the bamboo back in my 3 gallon tank with my $50 halfmoon betta. About a week later I noticed the betta was looking pale and biting his own fins. I lifted the lid off of the tank and it smelled like an aerosol can of chemicals. Poor fish spent a week getting high. He is healthy now but his colors have never returned.

2) I was doing a water change, siphoning water into buckets. My daughter who is less than 10 weeks old started to fuss. I stopped the siphon, ran upstairs to calm her. This happened about 5 times, but on the last I forgot to stop the siphon...yeah, saltwater and carpet do not mix well. I cleaned the carpet twice with my own machine and the smell didn't come out. I had to fork out $250 to get it specially cleaned.

Mentioned that I needed to give my tanks a good cleaning in front of a fish happy 4 year-old that my wife was watching. My 20 long and 29 each ended up with a gallon of Tide detergent in them. Fortunately she was too short to reach the 45. Had one survivor, a yoyo loach that lasted another three years.
Couldn't even be mad at the kid, she was devastated when she understood what she did killed the fish. I started teaching her proper tank maintenance after that and guess what? She has stayed with it, almost every Saturday she comes and helps me, she does the 20 and 29 while I do the big tanks, I think we have another lifer, lol. My wife has limited me in number but not gallonage, so when I get my next tank, short stuff gets the 20 long. She doesn't know that she's getting it, but I talked it over with her dad and he agreed she could have it.
thats verry nice of you lol
