Even the fluorescence of the Anal fin reminds me of the fish on that website. Yours seems to have an ocellated Caudal spot though, the one from the site is hard to tell. I'm guessing that's what you have.

See, on my monitor the top/your pic is deffinately orange rimmed, while the bottom is deffinately red rimmed.

the pics distort color alot. mine appear to have orange around the ocelli in the pics, but if you look at them in person its red.

one thing ive noticed.

peanuts female in post 11... seems to have slight white band on the dorsal fin.

my two females in post 14... one had a red band on its dorsal and the other has a white band on its dorsal.

post 20... that female has a white and red band.

any thoughts on the cause of these differences?

darth... u mention the wallacei having the orange ocelli. is that the only real diffence? have any pictures of the wallecei from columbia?

The picture on Vinny Kutty's site doesn't have any more red on the dorsal other than the ocelli.

The sp.s in question all seem to have red or orange in the dorsal. Other than the ocelli.

Where these fish came from would be a great help. Haha. This female is apparently from the Rio Uaupes. I wonder if that makes a difference. How many Notos are there described from different geological locations?

The correct spelling is wallacii btw ... No extensions on the dorsal of the males, overall they lacked the color of male noto's ... but since male noto color is rather subtle and pastel, it's hard to tell sometimes. The females dorsal rims were deffinately orange and not red, both in pic and in person. I have a few pics, but they aren't very good. I don't own a camera, I borrowed an old P&S to take these on threat of death by Peanut.

But I don't believe these Colombian pikes are actual wallacii. I am trying to find confirmation, but the orignal description of both wallacii and nanus (a jr synonym) both stated the female dorsals were lacking any markings (ie ocelli). Hence why I am calling them cf 'wallacii' Colombia. Also there are no wallacii found in the Rio Negro, which would be needed for the species to be found in Guyana and the Rio Branco and then again over in the Rio Orinoco.
