Dwarf tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea it's only 3 ft. That's my issue. Lol. That's why I'm asking for suggestions of what's that happy medium size where the pike won't plow through them, but small enough where they won't be cramped. Would 1.5-2 inch work? I guess it'd have to be a tall bodied species at that.

Maybe a prolific breeder. So that the pike could either be preoccupied with fry and leave adults alone and if a couple adults were killed maybe some fry would survive to take its spot. Idk just spit balling ideas right now. I have no idea.

It would not hurt to try the 1.5-2 inch but like you stated the tall body helps. Also like darth pike darth pike stated pikes may or may not bother the tetra.

The Marbled Hatchetfish are the difficult to keep out of all Hatchetfish but yes they could work because most of the time will occupy the surface of the water.

Hmmmm I do like them since they are surface dwellers and are definitely different/oddballish. I'm intrigued. Obviously have some research to do, but at least I have direction now. Thank you.

Keep us updated you will enjoy the Hatchetfish. :)

Penguin tetras occupy the upper levels.
They do but like the Colombian and bleeding heart they're just so plain. Even the hatchet fish have no color but at least they have the unique body shape/behaviour that makes it somewhat interesting. I just can't get into those other ones. I feel like I'd almost rather have nothing.

I know I'm picky but I'm just hoping to find that one perfect fish.

I was also looking into colomesus asellus (south American puffer) as I've read a ton of success stories with them and apistos. I just feel like the tank might get cramped with 3-5 of them patrolling around

I share your desire to keep south American puffers.Im really tempted to set up a biotope tank just for them.

I can't think of any colourful surface dwellers.
Have you considered a group of pencil fish? Some of those are quite attractive.
