Dyed Arowana?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah, that dying process is different than the needle injecting process.

when the whole fish is one color, they do it by submersing the fish in dye after stripping their slime coat with chemicals.
You end up with a fish that seems to be naturally colored that way.

except for the sickly, lethargic part.

yup, mine are definitely blue-tinted silvers. not quite as vibrant as the pink ones, subtle enough that anyone who didn't know better would think it was just a really nice blue. My issue is my distributor called them 'blue arowanas' and I even called to make sure these were true blues, not something else. This guy's gonna get an earful and a bunch of returns come monday. I don't know whether to keep mine though, he is a very healthy fish other than that unnatural color. Sucks to be misled like that, and it sucks that stuff like this actually goes on.

I find it easier to clarify with the scientific name. There's blue/black and in this case based on interpretation it IS blue. And they truly are blue, just not Osteoglossum Ferreirai. Post some pics, would be interesting to see exactly what you got.

any pics?

haha, I knew I'd have a lot of requests for pics. They won't be great but I'll post up a few. and jmotion, as much as I like dealing in scientific names, the unfortunate truth is that almost no major freshwater wholesalers use latin names, so I have to be pretty well versed in what the many different common names might mean and there's always some uncertainty with buying fish sight unseen.
