DYI stand under $100?

Use deck screws instead of nails. They hold way better, they're rust proof, and they're quieter, that way you can get your wood cut, take it upstairs and assemble it without hitting a historic wall trying to carry it up the stairs. ;-)

lol, yeah my biggest concern is cutting the thing precisely and nailing it 
. I already thought of an out of ordinary stand design 
but i need very thick wood and precise cutting. I don't know how I am going to nail/screw 4"+ wood. Looks mean a lot to me, no cider blocks
. I wonder if home depot charge restocking fee if you return their merchandise 
. Oh well, I got about 3 months to plan that thing...

Precise cuts? Forget home depot, Had a 4x8 sheet of plywood quartered, it was off by 1/2"
and not even close to square.
You don't screw or nail 4in + wood, you lag bolt it. Now we're talkin' heavy duty... (grunt .. grunt). You can notch that stuff log cabin style.
Thro us a drawing and lets see what ya got.

Dito here! I had some oak cut at the Home Depot for some cabinets that I was building. I gave exact measurements and got short wood that was not square...not even close. Over $100 in wood was ruined (got my money back though).

The equipment in a cabinetry shop costs a kings ransom and it can not be staffed with hamburger flippers. If you put a hamburger flipper on a $10,000 table saw, you will get the same results if you gave the hamburger flipper a hand saw (a finished product that is not at all appealing). It takes practice to cut a straight line. If you watch someone ride a bike, you are not going to be able to ride one for the first time without practice...or falling down. If you undertake this project and expect professional results, then just expect to scrap a lot of wood. Check out the book rack at the front of all home depots and Lowes. There will be tons of books on carpentry for the beginner along with many cheater tricks to cover up straight cuts that are not all that straight.
The stand in the picture that you posted looks like it is covered in formica. Working with formica is a job unto its own. Again a beginner will not get professional results. It requires a router with a skilled touch. And again, skilled does not mean watching someone else do it or reading the instructions in the box. You will have to accept flushing some money to get some practice.
Stick to the stands that you find on this site. They are reasonable designs and you can ask the builder tons of questions. Don't be so quick to rule out cinder blocks and fabric. It doesn't take any skill to make and it doesn't look bad either.
