not into anything but tattoos, but I don't even have any :nilly: the only thing I would like pierced is my lip, but I can't have it in for work and wouldn't be able to take enough time off for it to heal so I could take it out

It's not for everyone, like I said. But it's what I did for myself. I don't knock you if you do any of that stuff either.
I don't get displaying the x's or labeling yourself, but as long as you don't get like CM Punk or turn radical Hardline :D

I used to be straight edge (even past is and totally abstinant) under different pretenses, but I never called myself that. I don't people that call themselves straight edge, but agree with modern medicine, though. Anyway, enough about that. That's not what you asked.

The modern medicine quote....? Straight edge doesn't go against any sort of medicine used for healing unless it is abused. Say I go get my wisdom teeth pulled, I'm not gonna deny the Vicodin because otherwise I'd be in so much pain that I couldn't bear to remain conscious. It's all about treating your body correctly.

And Cincinnati is the home to Courage Crew, quite possibly the biggest straight edge gang to exist, having different branches throughout the world. I see what's done through that and would never be a part of that nonsense. I know many-a' guys who have gone to prison for things such as breaking a man's limbs and leaving him in the woods for dead just for talking to one of their girlfriends. :screwy:

yeah, people that think they're better than others because of that aren't cool as you said, especially when they become violent. Like drinking a couple drinks is worse for you than getting beat up...not a great message to send. sry, that might be confusing as to what i'm trying to get at.

i'm not saying all modern medicine is bad. But Vicodin is certainly arguably worse for you than THC. Alright, I'll stop there, lol. sry, it's not my life

Here's where I get confused with the whole straight edge mentality. If it's about treating your body right then why would you cut holes in it or inject ink. Give the risk of infection and morbidity I can't see how it jives with the Straight Edge ethos.

I think that tattoos can be covered up for the most part but the more hard core body mods can limit your employment opportunities. Same for prominent tattoos like on your hand and face. It would suck to blow a job with the BSO or Cirque de Sol because you have the wrong tattoo or your ears look like cat butts. Symbolism is far from universal and can be very badly mis-interpreted. Those X could have very different meaning for one not familiar with your intended symbolism. Unless your career is part way to being established I'd be cautious of anything you can't cover up.

First off, you stretch your ears. Only certain people have them scalpelled. And it's not intentional if an infection happens to come up. That's from taking poor care of them or stretching too fast.

And aside from running the risk of infection, it doesn't affect one's health in any way.

I have a question for you, being straight edge and all. Here in California they passed proposition 215 which makes marijuana available for doctors to prescribe for valid medical conditions. Would it be proper for somebody who is straight edge to be a smoker if it is doctor prescribed? I mean it does have medicinal properties.

Another study has confirmed that alcohol in small quantities is good for your heart and blood.

Where is the line drawn as to what is acceptable and what isnt? Is it just a status thing?

As far as alcohol and marijuana go, they are considered recreational drugs. I'm not sure what most of the edge community would have to say about it, but personally, I would refuse it. The benefits of smoking it don't seem to surpass the cons of it, in my eyes.

Used to have my ears at 14, but one got ripped pretty bad so I just took them both out.
When I get the cash and time for it I'm getting my outer conch punched to 0g.
Tattoos next year.

Under proposition 215, marijuana is NOT classed as a recreational drug. It has the same status as vicodin. Class 4 narcotic. Alcohol I can understand, yet its status doesnt take away the fact that is has positive benefits.

Though you may not see the benefits of it because you may not have a debilitating disease, marijuana has helped immensely in many patients who may not be able to take pills or injections or suffer from bad side effects of other drugs. It also doesnt kill your liver like many prescription pills often do.

To be honest, I just dont see the benefit of being straight edge other than for moral reasons. The basis that all drugs and alcohol and such is bad is very misleading. Basically you are denying knowledge to make room for faith.

Two people die every hour through drug-related causes, which equals 19,000 deaths a year. 100,000 people die a year due to alcohol related incidents. There are over 425,000 tobacco-related deaths each year, rounding out to about 20% of all deaths in America per year. Drug and alcohol rehab and abuse cause the government roughly $246 billion a year.

Clearly I do it out of sheer faith.
