Call me lazy, but carrying the buckets of water back and forth a couple times a week is getting old. Just wanted to see if people had more efficient ways to do water changes. Not sure there is, but I thought I'd ask. I'm sure there is a thread on this already so if someone can point me to it I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I am fortunate to have my fishroom located in the garage at street level....A water change for me is sticking one end of the hose in the tank and the other end outside on the street....Then I start a siphon, having the water run out onto the street....When enough water has been removed, I hook the hose back onto the water outlet in the garage and turn on the water...Nothing COMPLICATED about it...lol...It is FUNg Sway....

That is the exact reason I posted my thread asking for which pump I would need. I am thinking of using a siphon to drain water from my tank and using a pump to return water to the tank.

So I guess my idea is use a siphon with a longer hose to drain water and use a pump to return treated water.

Get a python, I don't know what I would do with out mine. You can get them at most LFS and any chain pet store.
They hook to a sink and make a siphon then fill when you want

Are you able to treat water that will be going back to the tank prior to the water going in the tank?

ya i just sipnon mine out the window and then i pull the hose in the window and fill her up. takes no time at all

Get a Python. It hooks to your sink faucet. It syphons the water out into the sink, then you reverse the water flow and it goes to your tank. a billion times easier than the way you are doing it.

I connected a submersible aquarium pump to my Python Hose using PVC adapters from Home Depot or Lowes. I place the pump in the tank and the other end in a sink or toilet. Plug in the pump and the water drains. Then I disconnect the pump and connect to a sink to refill the aquarium. The larger the pump, the faster the tank will drain.

hmm, not a bad idea. My tank is in my living room, but close enough to the front door for me to siphon it out that way. Do you run the tap water back into the tank without de-chlorinating it first?
