Are you able to treat water that will be going back to the tank prior to the water going in the tank?

The water in San Francisco is pretty balanced and clean....All I use is Kordon's Water Conditioner(3 for $19.99) to treat the water as it fills the tank....Sometimes, I throw in some Black Water Extract.....Bottom line....I fill directly from my main, and toss in the conditioner while filling...Been doing it for 20+ years in the CIty....From fancy goldfish to breeding Pygocentrus Natts....

PYTHON is the only way to go !!!!! I used to do the whole bucket thing and after i got my python i couldn't believe it took me so long to get one....Water changes are a breeze now....

With a python, you connect it up to the tap and turn the tap on. The water flows into the tank. Now, how do you de-chlor the water? Or do the fish have to put up with a few minutes of chlorinated water before it gets de-chlored by one dumping a whole lot of de-chlor into the tank?

Two ways:

1)Purchase a plastic garbage bin and fill it with water...Let it sit for a week....Stick a pump in the bin, let the water circulate...After a week, fit the correct diameter tubing on the pump and run it throught the back of your aquarium and fill her up with "clean" water...

2)Or what what do....While filling, I toss in the de-chlorination chemical in...

I would just fill the tank up and then add the de-chlor.....

Seems pretty easy in writing, and Im sure its easier in real life. I dont have patience to wait a whole week to do a water change. More or less, I'd just dump in a big load on de-chlor, then start the tap and continue putting de-chlor in every 3 gallons or so. The thing is, I've never seen a python for sale.

They need to put an in-line filter on the pythons,Like a hi-flow carbon filter. The picture at the top of page 2 looks like it has a de-chlor on it!Actually,if you took the gravel tube, filled it with carbon and put a tapered end on both ends,it might serve as a good de-chlor.As to how long the carbon would work, who knows!
