Eating Giant Gourami...yum?

Interesting footnote about that image, is that an adult osphrnemus is muuuch larger than what you see dead on that plate.

I'd say it's about a year old. An adult would be about double that size.
 
I doubt this fish was originally from an aquarium.

They are common food over there.

It is not a full grown specimen.
 
They are farmed as a food fish and taste pretty good. So are Pacu, Barramundi, Tilapia and some of the larger catfish species we keep in tanks. Juveniles probably taste better than tough old adults. Thai/Vietnamese people are probaby saying .... OMG why would you ever keep a gourami as a pet???

I worry more about the contaminants in natural bodies of water. Parasites for instance. Just something pleasant to think about before your next catch. lol
