Eating Giant Gourami...yum?

hmm- id have to be really starving to eat a pet.. i mean, i have a huge male venustus that makes me mad sometimes, but i wouldn't throw his big butt in a skillet to see if he is tasty--though i wonder.......
id sort of imagine it would taste like tilapia. You should see those pics that Jed posted a while ago... Do a search for centralmayhem and the edible red terror( or midas ?)..
I would never eat a pet. But there's a big difference between eating a GG and eating a pet GG.
I've had chickens as pets and they will always be a favorite pet of mine but I don't think I've ever gone a day without at least one serving of chicken. Seriously.
I also love my mozzambique tilapia and mozzie/nile hybrids. They're lots of fun to have an watch and while I would never eat one I've grown with much love and enjoyment myself I have no problem buying, gutting, scaling, breading and frying the ones from the market.
By Lake Malawi you can find mbuna and haps as menu items. In South and Central America huge plecs, P-bass, colorful geos, big beautiful blackbelts and even dovii are nothing more than food items. And while eating sunfish or bass here may not be something to bat an eyelash at they're strict hobby fare in Europe.
