I would never eat a pet. But there's a big difference between eating a GG and eating a pet GG.
I've had chickens as pets and they will always be a favorite pet of mine but I don't think I've ever gone a day without at least one serving of chicken. Seriously.
I also love my mozzambique tilapia and mozzie/nile hybrids. They're lots of fun to have an watch and while I would never eat one I've grown with much love and enjoyment myself I have no problem buying, gutting, scaling, breading and frying the ones from the market.
By Lake Malawi you can find mbuna and haps as menu items. In South and Central America huge plecs, P-bass, colorful geos, big beautiful blackbelts and even dovii are nothing more than food items. And while eating sunfish or bass here may not be something to bat an eyelash at they're strict hobby fare in Europe.
