You guys with piranha, will they eat there own kind? They seem to attack eveything you put in the tank. How dangerous are they with kids if they put there hands in there. Has anyone been bit by there own pet piranha?

Yes they will eat there own especially when young. There is a possibility that if a kid were to put their hands in the tank that they could get bit. People do occasionally do get bit by their piranha...

Wow Snake-Eyes, That thread on Piranha Fury is really out there. I feel for the guy that got bite. Another reminder to always keep your guard up when working with fish that can bite: Piranhas, LungFish, Gars and eels.

my lfs has a piranha show tank with an open top. i always wiggle my finger in the water and they all dart across the tank twords them. hehe the most ive left them in was 5sec the piranha darted over at first then look at them and swam away.

If you introduce other p's to an already set up tank, they will eat eachother. I stick my hand, well my entire arm in my tank when cleaning it and i have never been biten. I laso keep the net in the water trying to keep them to the other side. If they wanted to get by it i doubt they'd have any probs. You have ot ask the old question... will they bite the hand that feeds?

i can actually move my rbp by hand while im cleaning the tank, he is only 5" now but one day i know he will bite me but i would never let anyone else stick their hand in.

ive moved my rbp by hand, push them out of the way as they scurry for cover, scared as heck, that guy got bit by a black p, much more aggresive, plus he was in the net, i had one bite thru a net while i had my hand over the top to keep him in, never did that again!

i got bit by a one eyed piraya once-he was about 4.5 inch didnt notice until i saw the blood--so piranha bites suck-- but for the most part they are more afrain of your hands IME
