Eating your aquarium kept fish

i have been on this site for going on a year and i have noticed people saying they do or would eat their fish if it out grew its tank. im curious how do they taste after being raised in an aquarium all of its life? does it taste different than if it was in the wild? two kinds i have noticed people say this about is a rtc and a buttikoferi there are others just cant remember. personally id be skeptical to eating a fish i have raised and cared for all of its life like im not sure if i would be able to just kill it.

Its actually only been about 7+ months (December 2012)...which is just a little over half a year.;)

As far as the question. If I was absolutely starving and couldn't afford any food...then maybe I would be forced to eat my fish. But if that were the case...I wouldn't be able to afford to pay my electric bill, water bill, or purchase fish food.

So I would probably rather sell my fish...so I could use the money to buy human food!:)
 
well most fish people eat arent wild caught but raised in a farm, and as for eating my fish.....i wouldnt do it unless its like a pacu or a piranha...they look tasty!
 
I wouldn't eat any from my tanks, even if people say they taste good.
 
Most of the popular fish that's take to our aquariums are delicacy to natives from their origin, it's just that once you're attached to your pet would you even consider eating a fish which your raise like a child of yours? not on the conscience issue but it's just the thing's thing you see. But on my side I'll be doing what pigoo said, sell it and buy some stuff. Well there are fish that are raised in aquariums such as red tilapia to be eaten basically for your taste buds it's still a tilapia, it'll be just tastier because it's well cared off, rather than mass produced tilapia where human feces is also used to feed the fish. :barf:

nice, i've heard of people getting sick from this, what fish have you eaten before?
