I take exception to this comment. Most aquaculture, mine included, do NOT use steroids in their stock. Aside from the fact that steroids are too expensive, there's no benefit to them. I know some farms use hormones in broodstock to induce egg and milt development but, again, this is done to broodstock and not offered to fish destined for the food market or release.

sorry man. I didn't mean allllllllllllllllllllll aquaculture farms. A teacher I had in high school, for our aquaculture program said that we were going to use steroids in order to change the sex of the tilapia we were growing. Didn't mean to offend you bro, but some places do use this method.

I went to an Asian market where they had fresh aka live Tilapia and I was thinking of getting one to bring home and throw in the tank. I was in Thailand 2 years ago visiting family and I got the chance to eat some fish that we would find in our aquariums...a walking catfish, a giant gourami, and some mantis shrimp. All were delicous  Really tender and moist. I have a walking catfish that I just purchased, but I don't have any intention of eating it.

Man, if I was your younger brother or sister, I'd be living in constant fear. I'm sure your dog took up smoking, too, to calm his nerves.
 :clap  :clap  :clap he is A hardcore M.F.K. member , DON'T JUST RAISE UM KILL'em AND EAT'emTOO!..... C.M your the man.

I too have taken an aquaculture course, mainly in salmonid culture, not many growers use steroids or growth harmones, it is not cost effective, you must be thinking of that thanksgiving turkey in your freezer.
I have only eaten one fish from my tanks, a red belly that died of cold in a power outage one winter. I don't know about you but I consume far more chemicals and meds than my fish do. You ever read the label on a box of Ding Dongs?

i've always wanted to eat a piranha.....its said they are an sexual stimulate wonder how they taste

I can't see anything wrong with it. Tell me that if your cow died you would not eat it?

That said I don't think I could stomach eating a fish that I had been admiring in my living room for years. That neighbour's cat though ....... :naughty: :grinyes:

I have to say, it would be hard to eat something that you raised and cared for for a long time. But I guess if it was too big to flush down the tiolet... cou could give it to someone else to eat. Not that anyone I know would want any of my oddball fish. except maybe the crazy Asian lady that lives down the street, she is always cooking something weird.

My piranha was very bland. I find that any well prepared meal is a sexual stimulant, also chocolate and even gummi bears but maybe that is just me. :naughty:

true true, not suppose to eat or release into the wild, like say you caught a sunfish and keep it for a while...it's a no no.

I could eat my raised fish easily but I wouldn't have the heart to kill the fishy if I raised it for a long period of time. My have two walleyes and I know they would tasted great when the grow up.....hummm hummm.

It's funny how everytime I go to the petshops that carry native fishes they always ask me if I'm raising it to eat the fish.... :swear: Is it because I'm ASIAN... :swear:

On a serious note, buying 5 fish to keep would cost around 75 bucks already. Wouldn't those petshop think I'd get more fish meats at the local supermarket with $75 bucks... :screwy:

I get pissed everytime I get asked that question, maybe I'll just deep fry my 4" walleyes right now and eat it like deep fry smelts. :woot:
