Hi all new to the forum. Looking for advice.

I have two Electric Blue Acaras and I thought they were both male. Turns out Big Blue is a girl! And now I have eggs and they are both very nasty to the other fish in protecting their fry, I'm actually worried for my other fish and the fry at the same time.

I set up a 10 gallon, not ideal but it's what I have for now. It has fish water from their tank and I've checked the parameters all seems steller. Still waiting a little bit before the transfer to instill no errors.

I pretty much have read up on everything I need to know about breeding and what happens next... but can I and how can I transfer the eggs from the big tank to the little tank without harming them?

They are on a rock and in there good. Can I just grab the rock and put it in the new tank... or is it harder than that?

Thank again!20200407_022634.jpg

Welcome aboard
What type of filter do you have for the 10 gallon hatchery? Is the filter seeded?

You can still transfer them to the 10 gallon or divide the aquarium with plastic egg crate.
If you transfer the eggs don't let the rock be exposed to air. Also a air stone should be placed near the eggs to simulate the parents fanning them to keep debris etc. off. Without the filter partial water changes should be performed. I personally would do them daily.

You transfer the entire rock(s) covered in eggs to the 10 gal.
Set up an air stone near them to mimic the way cichlids fan eggs, it keeps the oxygenated, and helps deter fungus.

As soon as the eggs turn to wrigglers, its time to start hatching out Artemia as their fist foods, because as soon as they are free swimming they will need to eat, small meals as many feedings per day as you can manage.
The 2 black dishes on top of the tank in the 1st pic, are brine shrimp hatcheries. You can hatch them in just about anything, I just find this type easy.
You could also put the eggs in a breeder box.

These techniques work for most substrate spawning cichlids.

I buy bacteria from the bottle its called fritzyme. I also added the other fishtank water to tank hope that has bacteria in it. And I believe it is the basic hang off filter

I did transfer the rock and parents to tank. I assume I won't need the airstone anymore since the parents are there, correct?

Is there a way to tell if there inactive or not progressing eggs? Can you tell if they are alive still?
