Not sure if I'm just being paranoid or not, but one of my EBJD's appetites has gone down the last day or two I noticed. It didn't stop eating, but it wasn't as aggressive of an eater as usual.

I didn't feed it today, but it's stomache seems full. It looks like it has just a little bit of poo trying to come out, almost like its stopped up? Is this the start of bloat? I've never dealt with it before. Possibly an internal parasite?

This video should give you a good idea of what I'm talking about, you can also see my other EBJD for comparison. They are both just over 3.5"

I'm mostly just looking for a quick opinion on if I should be concerned or not...if so I'll post that long list of details about my setup to try to pinpoint the problem.

edit: I test my water parameters approx. once a week and have never had any ammonia or nitrite, and nitrate is under control (stays in 5-40ppm range, doesn't often get up to 40 anymore though. pH is 7.6, doesnt fluctuate.

this happened to me with another fish.. where it couldn't poop.. and the stomach just got bigger and bigger and it lost its appetite... and eventually died..

I dont think your fish is as serious as my own. but def be on the look out for anymore bloatness

Sorry that i can't help.. i dont have an answer as to why or whats the cause.. but i have seen it happen. It a type of parasite infection inside the stomach..

The flowerhorn that died on me with a bloat stomach had only water inside.. no pop or anything.. but thats all i can say... i'm guess its some type of cancer for fish...

I also had a EBJD that died on me due to the same issue.. stomach bloat... i hope you can cure it better than me.. because i could not cure my fish once they got a bloat... :(

Well thats not what I wanted to hear :( thanks for sharing your experiences though, it helps.

The tank is 125g. Last night I was already a little worried, and ended up treating the tank with 40g worth of salt (1/2 cup i think). I did a 20g water change today, and after that dosed 60g worth of salt. So should be about 80g salt treatment in there now. I under-dose it to avoid agitating the plecos.

I didn't feed them today, and I won't tomorrow. Will be doing daily water changes through the weekend...

it does look bloated if it happened all within a couple of days it probably is just stopped up add epsom salt at 2 to 3 tablespoons per 10 gal till it passes and remeber to add more salt after water changes

It looks like its working that poo out slowly...its slightly longer than it was when I posted the video.

Is epsom salt the same as API's Freshwater Aquarium Salt? Do I need metronidazole?

no aquarium salt is not the same use epsom salt for bloat i would not use metro see if the epsom salt helps if not then i would treat with meds just hurry and get the epsom salt in there

Ok I'll pick some up today. Can anyone give me a 2nd opinion on using epsom salt?

Do I need to do water changes to get rid of the current API freshwater salt thats dosing the tank now? Or do I add the epsom salt on top of whats already in there now? The 125g tank currently is dosed with 80g worth of salt, so I could still add 40g worth of epsom salt today without over-dosing.

Ok I picked up some epsom salt at Publix on my lunch break. But I dont want to dose it to the tank until I get a response if its safe to mix it w/ the salt thats already dosing the tank (API's freshwater aquarium salt).

I'm going to do a quick 15g water change before I go back to work (without replacing salt).

Hopefully I can start dosing epsom tonight.

Also, how much epsom do I dose? Is it the same amount as API's salt? (1 cup treats 80g if I remember right (1 tbsp per 5g).
