EBJD Breeding Project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so 2 blue gene females are Bb and so the percantages are BB,Bb,Bb,bb so 25 percent electric and then i take a bb and breed it with a whole different blood line bb i get 100 percent ebjd

An EBJD crossed with a blue gene Jack Dempsey will yield the highest percentage of EBJD fry. It would be 50/25/25 (50% EBJD's, 25% BGJD's and 25% regular Jack Dempseys). Where as a pair of BGJD's would only yield 25/50/25 (25% EBJD's, 50% BGJD's and 25% regular Jack Dempsey's) if I remember correctly. The best way to breed these fish for EBJD's is male EBJD and female BGJD. But again, making sure they're from 2 entirely different bloodlines. Otherwise you'll wind up with deformities.

Ok let me make this very simple. Let's only count the amount of EBJD you get from each type of spawn

BGJD x BGJD = 25% EBJD
EBJD X BGJD = 50% EBJD
EBJD X EBJD = 100% EBJD (very unlikely to raise at this point)
Now you also need EBJD/ BGJD/ regular jacks from all diffent sources.
To start if you have a EBJD and rJD
EBJD x rJD = 100% BGJD
Now take the best looking fry from this spawn. And find another either. EBJD, or another spawn of BGJD (NOT FROM YOUR EBJD X rJD PAIR!!) and raise the best few to spawn together. You can go one of two ways with this. Either A breed a new EBJD to the BGJD spawn you now have or buy a new spawn of BGJD and pair them up with your spawn.

The concept is easy enough once you have it down. The problem is the time and effort put in, and many people get frustrated, EBJD are extremely slow growing.

SO IMA SKIP ALLOT OF PROSCESS AND JUST BUY THIS $20 BLUE GENE 4 INCH FEMALE
AND START BREEDING THAT WITH MY EBJD SO THE FRY WILL BE 50% EBJD SO THAT SAVES ME ALOT OF TIME SO ALL I GOTTA DO IS WAIT FOR THEM TO PAIR UP BUT HOW COME U CANT BREED 2 COMPLETLY DIFFERENT STRAINS OF EBJD TOGETHER

EBJD's compared to their regular counterparts have far weaker genetics. They're simply not as hardy of a fish as the regular JD's or the JD's that just carry the blue gene. EBJD fry don't make it in the wild because they grow slow and are just overall weaker than the regular fry. Without human intervention, these fish would not exist.

so i bought 2 ebjd at 1 inch who the parents are ebjd x blue gene so does that mean my 2 ebjds have the gene needed
from what i headr lfs only sell male ebjd so u buy one then uy bout 4 female regular jacks same size...let them pair out and remove rest..then the fry will be reg jacks with blue gene in them...thenu breed another ebjd with oe of the fry that has the gene and the next batch should be half blue half reg...keep the blues and breed from there keep inmind of the inbreeding therefor ur guna have to bbuy atleast 3 male ebjd...or just buy a proven pair but those are expensive and risk of stree during shipping that they break up and never spawn again..therefore its a proccess..also their piky eaters...and are hard to keep alive till they reach over 3 inches
