EBJD Growth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, that sounds about right, I was figuring mine too grow about an inch a month. From what I've read they seem to hit a growth be spurt somewhere between between the to four, another person said 3 to 5 inches.... Patience is a virtue. I'm also hoping it grows a bit faster now that the parasite is gone.
The ebjd on your profile pic looks solar exactly like mine by the way. Same size, type of blues and shape. I'm about to go to bed or I'd go and take a quick picture. Your little blues look amazing. I just joined this site and that was my first post and I'd be interested in taking notes and progress and comparing what seems to work. Are you planning on having yours living with other fish in the future? Go communal style?

My profile pic was when I first bought them. They are a bit bigger right now.

I am planning to breed them, currently I have three EBJDs and two regular JDs but just put one of each up for sale tonight. They live with molly fish right now.

They are good eaters and beggers haha hard not to feed them.

Post some pics when you get a chance

I have a roughly two and a half inch ebjd in a 30 gallon tank. He has no other fish that will bother him in there. Just some loachesl oach tetras and catfish that kind their own business. He had stringy white poop and would shimy and shake like 8 to ten times. I used some prazi pro and he is good and healthy now and popping healthy. I've had him for 50 days today and he's grown maybe half an inch. I had the water at 84 degrees by mistake and didn't know this until I put a thermometer in. Apparently you can't always go by what you have the thermometer set to... Anyway, I'm thinking about growing him another 4 months with the goal of 4 inches long Aug 1. Today is April first. So anyway, the thing that surprisingly is not addressed often in people talking about the ebjd growth speed, is increasing temps to speed the fish grown. Now my larger 90 gallon is my American ciclid tank. I'm waiting for the ebjd to get to about 4 inches before I see him with the chocolate ciclid and the green terror in the 90. I want to decrease the temp to 80 in the 90 gallon. It is currently 86, didn't know this till now. The fish are happy, Healy and beautiful...I want to turn this to 80 and I'm wondering what people opinions are on this... Running the 90 gallon at 80 degrees while having the 30 gallon at 84 degrees to speed up the ebjd while keeping the 90 degree slowed down so they are closer to the same size in 4 months. So in doing this, hop warm could I have the water in the 30 gallon to grow the ebjd to his fastest possible speed? I'm thinking 86 could be done, nob maybe risky. He was gone at 84 and I may increase to that. Anyone have any experience or know what an ebjd can handle for a few months of higher temps and not cause ill Heath?

I keep my fish in the mid-upper 70's. 80's seems a bit hot. 86 is really hot; I'm glad they are doing okay, just seems hot.

Here are some pictures of him. He gets a good variety of food. Mega one ciclid flakes in the morning, brine shrimp with spirulina when I'm home from work later, then a touch of pure spirulina flakes followed by seaweed before bed to help it all digest during his sleep. Double portions of brine shrimp on weekends. Accidently had the heat at 88 today bu accident when trying to adjust it. He was fine but Im assisting it back down to 83. I know you can do 82 relatively safely. 84 is pushing it, do I'm going to go in the middle at 83 for 4 months with this for regimen. Hoping to get him growing to his full potential to relate him to the larger tank with the others about 4 months from now. Should be about 4 inches by then I'm guessing. He was about 1.75 inches when I purchased him Feb.9 this year. Aug would be almost 6 months. I know they grow slow, so I'm thinking conservatively.

Here is the 90 gallon tank he will be added too. I'm a little skeptical about the green terror and him... We shall see, the chocolate cichlid will be fine with him. Did a little rest run... Haha. There's a salvini in there, a mean little guy who may have to be donated back to the aquarium shop before then...
