I am going to be getting an ebjd here like next week for a killer deal and I was just curious are they still as fragile as they used to be or are they a bit more of a hardy fish nowadays? Also they are a pretty slow growing fish correct?

Chad

Post pictures of him when you get it, usually by looking at the body shape amd coloration you can tell if it had weak genes and yes most are still fragile the stock is getting better as more people attempt to breed these at home. Lovely fish though I love mine

get it at 3" they are very fragile at 1"...

Well my buddy already got them and they are only like an inch so hopefully they do well... Fingers crossed! I think I am going to take him home tomorrow.

Keep your water clean and I'd put Mollies, Guppies, or Platys in as tank mates. That way your little ones wont get stressed by a more aggressive tank mate and will help increase the chance of raising them past 3"s.

I have been working on planting my tank for a while... It is getting there but not where I want it. There is plenty of cover in my tank so hopefully the bigger guys won't bother him. I will get a few more smaller fish too so he doesn't get bothered. How long can I expect it to take him to get 3"?

i would say a couple of months maybe

its not really about cover, the plants keep the water good.

Could be 3" with in 3 months if you are lucky.
