picked up a new 1" eletric blue dempsey and have heard they can be very sensitive and die easily. I made sure that this little guy was feeding well but is there anything that I should be doing or watching for with this little guy to make sure he stays healthy?

If you have UV sterilizer you'll be ok and do 10-20% water change every other week..

Depending on the size of the tank and who he's in there with I might up it to 30%-50% every week or two. Aside from that, just feed a high quality pellet and make sure to get some veggie matter in his diet.

That's what i feed mine.

Why do you need a uv sterilizer? Will it be ok without one?

Maybe but at that size there a chance he wouldn't be..

I've had my EBJD for about 4 months and grew him out from about half an inch and he's never had a UV sterilizer. He's about 2.5"-3" now and has never been ill with any ailments. Granted he's still very young, but so far so good without the UV sterilizer. It couldn't hurt though.

EBJD 2" less more prone to parasite then 3".. But if you risk not having UV sterilizer.. Just make a weekly habit of water change and don't over feed.. EBJD eat like pigs sometime..

Mine is about 8", and I don't have a UV sterilizer(not to say it would be harmful, just saying it might not be necessary). Feed veggies and not too many protein rich foods. I think their systems have trouble processing it. I have lost a few juvies, but I think when they hit about 3", you're mostly out of the woods.
