EBJD?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ph is good.

It’s hard to tell because the fish is stressed, but I first thought female JD. Once settled in it will be easier to tell.

Huh. I was told male, ebjd. Dang. I'm new at this - my first big tank, 90 gallons. I'm going to go get him some brine shrimp this morning - the severum takes flakes and even our geckos worms, but he hasn't eaten anything yet... maybe he's just hungry? He's very lively, swimming all over the tank, but I'm not familiar if that's good or bad - here's an updated photo btw (and thank you to everyone for your comments! Nice to have people to share this with :)

It could be a male EBJD, it’s just hard to tell at this point. My first impression was female because the “blue beard” if it is a regular or blue gene JD.

Really nice fish either way.

So I got to the bottom of it. The store had 50 to begin with, and this fish and another were the last, and the most dull. When I was buying him they tried to tell me that he was just young and he would be bright blue when he grew up, but today a different person admitted he would probably stay the same, so they could give me a partial refund. Geez. I do like him - the family is already attached - we named him "Sid."

I would just keep him, his uniqueness will endear him all the more. Like my Oscar for example. Somehow it slipped pass inspection with only one nostril. Should have been a cull, but somehow she slipped thru. I got her and didn't notice myself till some time later. Here we are near a year later and she is a big beautifull beast.20180419_010857.jpg

While that fish isn't a true EBJD, its still a beautiful Blue JD and will grow up to be a fantastic looking fish.
It quite possibly will be an easier fish to look after, be more hardy and very interactive as compared to what I have heard about EBJDs.

Glad we could advise you correctly and you could get a partial refund and good to hear that you and your family have fallen in love with this fish.

I agree with Hidan. It will be a lovely blue JD, but I don't think it is EB. I have three and they have a different pattern and the colouring is very obvious.

Yeah, I keep researching it more. No way is he/she EB. But pretty :) So, can anyone tell me with these updated photos male or female?
