I was there around the time of the outbreak. I think I heard measles stay in the air for 2 hours after a cough or sneeze. Them 1hr lines are a perfect scenario for measles :/

Yeah they are. it's an easy scenario to see how someone could visit while infected and then slowly spread to children who's parents refuse to vaccinate their children.

I have a hard time believing that a majority of those infected would be visitors who end up in hospital/doctors and vaccinated adults....which it sounds like petspoiler may be implying

In reference to measles; I think it is very, very interesting that someone pointed out earlier that 6% are estimated to be unvaccinated. Does anyone care to guess what percent of the population has to be immune to highly contagious, truly airborne pathogens like measles to keep them from spreading?

Back to Ebola -- the outbreak has reached a critical downward inflection point in Sierra Leone and Liberia. 99 new cases this past week were reported, which means that we are seeing the backside of the infection curve. With continued efforts and vigilance in West Africa, there will be an exponential decrease in new cases per week. I'd like to think that we all can agree that this is good news.

I'm Where I'm At
In regards to the vaccines, idk why people listen to Jenny McCarthy, the former pornstar, when she says vaccines caused her son's autism. When it was pointed out that her child was not autistic, she said she cured him with a method that has no supporting scientific evidence.
I did not know she was a former pornstar. is this true or are you making that up? edit: I thought you meant movies

and I heard her kid was autistic but I don't follow her so I didn't know he turned out not to be autistic

Weird. Usually autism shows up no later than age 3 or 4 from my understanding, but can get worse. Maybe he has had one of the other four pervasive developmental disorders. I'm definitely not a doctor though lol.
the autism spectrum is very broad as you probably know so i can see how someone who is autistic on the high functioning side may not be diagnosed until a later age. but yea, one who is severe will show signs at 1 yr even

Some info from CDC website:
"Q: Has measles been eliminated from the United States?
A: Yes. In 2000, the United States declared that measles was eliminated from this country. The United States was able to eliminate measles because it has a highly effective measles vaccine, a strong vaccination program that achieves high vaccine coverage in children and a strong public health system for detecting and responding to measles cases and outbreaks.
Q: What does "measles elimination" mean?
A: Measles elimination is defined as the absence of continuous disease transmission for 12 months or more in a specific geographic area. Measles is no longer endemic (constantly present) in the United States.
Q: If measles is eliminated, why do people still get it in the United States?
A: Every year, measles is brought into the United States by unvaccinated travelers (Americans or foreign visitors) who get measles while they are in other countries. They can spread measles to other people who are not protected against measles, which sometimes leads to outbreaks. This can occur in communities with unvaccinated people.

Most people in the United States are protected against measles through vaccination, so measles cases in the U.S. are uncommon compared to the number of cases before a vaccine was available. Since 2000, when measles was declared eliminated from the U.S., the annual number of people reported to have measles ranged from a low of 37 people in 2004 to a high of 644 people in 2014."

[note the above identification tag: "communities with unvaccinated people"]. More than just one group/category of people can be included in that. It is not limited to parents refusing vaccinations.
There are unprecedented high numbers of undocumented people in this country. However, just toss that out if including it means bigotry, or ?..
Look at the recent laxity- even for permissible US entry- now being at an all time high.
Combine this with known facts, & science:

From CDC pages: "People who received two doses of measles vaccine as children according to the U.S. vaccination schedule are considered protected for life........." and another CDC note says "† Infants who receive a dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should receive 2 more doses of MMR vaccine, the first of which should be administered when the child is 12 through 15 months of age and the second at least 28 days later."

FACT: The recent rushed immigration "health processing" includes exactly ONE measles vaccine.. Not TWO. and certainly not three.
Where are the truth & science broadcast of facts which really do matter?
CDC says, Children correctly vacc'd have approximately 97% immunity.
So, are these new immigrant children categorized as vaccinated? or UNvaccinated?
I really doubt that pediatricians would expose their own half-vaccinated child to measles.

I'll bypass the numbers (impossible to find) or how that could play out.
I do consider each & every person within our borders to be "in communities....". whether or not they qualify for using the FULL CDC label of "in communities of unvaccinated people".
Leave that for examination by scientific criteria.
Or Not., which is the current status quo. No common sense enter discussions. not science, & not even if they accidentally overlap.

heatherbeast said "6% are estimated to be unvaccinated".......... and "5% percent of the population has to be immune to highly contagious, truly airborne pathogens like measles to keep them from spreading. "

That seems to indicate that our Unvaccinated is only 1% above the technically needed safety net of 5%. (not heather's stated "ideal")
I wonder if that "6%" measurement was taken from within our current, entire society. ?
Looking at data on the rise of measles here in recent years, I'm thinking Not. Maybe it is derived from the traceable medical records of those who refuse vaccines.?
The rise has to correlate with CDC stated source of exposure: "from other countries".
Have all the 6% of non-vaccinaters suddenly & massively increased their travels beyond US borders with kids in tow (a synchronized madness) and then come back here infected with measles. ?

Lol. I'm sorry, not buying that as the sole source of measles cases spiking here. You can't just ignore another correlating spike: porous borders, permitted and otherwise.
go to http://www.cdc.gov/measles/cases-outbreaks.html
and scroll down to the graph of measles outbreaks by year. Look at 2014. and then 2015 which consists of the first month. then go figure how many hundreds will occur in 2015 continues at the current rate.
The spike requires a huge change in SOMEthing.
