So far I haven't seen anyone threaten to stomp you or shoot you yet, but then I'm a newb & I haven't read it all....

I don't get it here so much because people want to stay on the forum, but I get it semi regularly on other social media where people have the quasi anonymity of their real name preventing me from being able to figure out who they are here.

Still though, I'm a 6'3 220 pound former drill sergeant. People always clam up in person for some reason. Funny, that.

One would barely suspect that we have so many young folks here, as they are generally so well spoken and polite. I've been to places on the web, inhabited solely by teenagers who were desperately trying to be teenagers, and it was Dante-esque.

Though it's wonderful on places like MFK, where they are desperately trying to be adults.

I wholeheartedly agree. We have so many bright young people on this forum that it almost gives my cynical heart a ray of hope. Time and again, I've held intelligent conversations with an individual that I only later find out is in their teens.

It speaks volumes to the character of these young folks. I was certainly nowhere near as mature or communicative as these young people are when I was that age.

Younger MFKers- you have my respect.

Hello; A development of personal interest today. I received a card for one of the doctors in the area I have been going to for a couple of decades. He said that due to covid19 he is closing his practice in Middlesboro KY after 25 years. He will try to keep his office in Knoxville TN open. That is not terrible for me as it will be a drive of around 60 miles compared to seven miles of the past.
I guess it is a big deal for the doctor however.

Hello; As I was typing the above with the news on in the background I picked up on a bit of information. A Dr. Scott Atlas was being interviewed. Let me confess I saw him a couple days ago and favor much of what he is saying about the shutdowns. The bit of information that caught my ears is that an estimated 125 million world wide will face starvation due to the way various governments are dealing with this virus outbreak. I think he cited the authority but I did not catch what organization is making that call. He called out some other problems we are facing due to the shutdowns.

This pandemic will be felt for years to come, and we will never know it's true toll death/economic wise
Hello; I fear you are correct. I also figure there are a lot of folks who mistakenly think things will be back to "normal" at some point. I see survey results of around 60% of people who want the shutdowns to continue. That it too early to open up now. Some who want to hide until a vaccine is made. By the way a vaccine that works well is not yet a given. Maybe we get a good vaccine and that will be good, but it is not like there is a sure thing. Not sure in 18 months, just a hope at this point. Could be years for a decent vaccine. maybe never a vaccine.
Do not get me wrong. I hope for a good vaccine. I just do not see a sure thing.

What really concerned me was that all the pattients except one other person did not wear masks at physical therapy a week ago. It really bothered me that for a while I was less than 3 feet away from another patient who did not have a mask on. Therapist, bless her heart, is taking her lunch at 11 and seeing me on 12 when there are no other patients. The therapists cannot mandate that the clients wear masks. That mandate has to come from headquarters. They are losing revenue right now and "furloughed" at least two people at the office I go to. So I doubt there will ever be a mask mandate.

Took my truck in to the local dealership today, and NO ONE was wearing masks. So far we have had only three positives in our rural county..maybe that's why the people at the dealership didn't wear masks :( :(

Found some genuine 3M N95 respirator masks. $329.99 for 20 masks :( :( ripped off, but needed the masks as I can't continue using my precious surgical masks which are no longer available for me to buy.

Hello; I figure you are less hated than judge Eric Moye, at least by me.

Lol I'll take it!

I agree. I feel this is likely to be a transformative event for our world.

Family members have been doing Zoom doctor consultations. Works good and saves us a 5 hr round trip drive.

I've got one of those tomorrow!

I am of the mindset that we laypeople aren't really in a position to make the call, and that we should defer to the experts. Far to many people who aren't epidemiologists opine vociferously on this. I am of the mindset that we should all be quiet and listen to the epidemiologists. ?‍♂️

...And that is in no way a go at anyone in this thread, just my thoughts on the matter.

Fwiw I agree with you skj that it is unlikely we'll ever get back to normal. The pre-'rona world is gone. We may get another functional sense of normalcy, but that is likely to be quite unrecognizable from anything we could have imagined just a few short months ago, especially if there's a second wave.

We have 2 ways out of this

Herd immunity or a vaccine

It's cost us 80,000 people to get maybe 10% to 25% of the population immune to it, for an unknown amount of time.

Vaccine is a year to 18 months away if we can make one that works.
Then there's the whole daunting task of getting it to the entire planet.....
