Just an FYI for the brace, you could cut those braces out and replace them with a piece of glass 12-18" wide that you silicone to both sides. That is how my 220 is braced (same dimensions as your 180 except 30" high instead of 24"). They ARE important!

Why are you going to plug the overflows instead of using them? Since you already have them it will be very easy to run a sump.

So Im thinking that if a bead of silicone on each side those glass panels is strong enough to hold the tank from bowing then some special plastic epoxy to repair the plastic braces should work just as well too. Im also not using a sump yet because I have no experience with them and figure that a canister filter will be a cheaper start.

Well, the glass brace is much larger than those plastic braces. The brace in my tank is about 18" wide, spans from front to back and is about 5/8" thick. I wouldn't trust gluing the plastic brace...180 gallons is a LOT of water to lose if your brace lets go and your tank gives out. Try explaining that to your insurance company.

Anyone know where I can purchase a new frame? Ive looked around briefly but no one seems to offer them that large (72x24).

Heres is what I got done today. Cleaned all the algae off with vinegar and a razor, plugged the two over flow holes and epoxied the top brace back together. I think I am going to try and find a new top frame before I fill the tank and replace it. Going to work on painting the stand black and replacing the corroded door hinges tomorrow.

Looks nice but why plug the over flows? Would be easy to put in a weir and build a nice sump.

Im going to start off with a nice canister filter, probably (2) Cascade 1500s

Working on the stand today (with a little extra help). The door on the left has been sanded and I put one coat of paint on to see if I like the color. What do you think? I will also be replacing all the hinges as the old ones are completely corroded. Still looking for a top frame but cannot seem to find one

Looking good. How about giving the back pane a coat of black paint. It really looks sharp with PFS and hides any equipment you'll have running down the back of the tank
