there is no way for it to remove all toxins unless its an RO
just because it reduces nitrates (which I highly doubt it noticeably does) does not mean it makes the water healthy for fish. what about dissolved organics?
plants are the only real way to do this but you would need MASSIVE amounts of plants. I had 21 red mangroves growing in a tank and found no noticeable benefits.

BTW they were small red mangroves
not full treesbut my point was that even with them growing at an alarming rate (I might have to bonsi) producing new leaves and me plucking the old ones I never got a noticeable nitrate drop.
