Go with what ever substrate you like the look of since you will be using root tabs in all of them.
Root tabs aren't needed with a good plant substrate.
 
My 72g planted uses the Seachem flourite and I really like the way it looks.

My bigger tanks use Eco Complete, as it brings out the color in my monsters better and is more user-friendly with fish that like to stir up the bottom.

I recommend both. :)

Nope. Root tabs and good plant substrate generally share the same basic micro and macro nutrients. Adding the root tabs is a waste.
