Eco Complete Planted Black Aquarium Substrate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just an addendum . . . I had some extra Flourite from prior tanks that I had saved, just in case . . . decided to re-do my 20G-high with a base of about 80% Flourite, 20% tuface (I think), which I also had lying around

this was supposed to be a FW refugium tank, but I bailed on that idea, and now it is where I put plants that aren't ready for my larger tanks, e.g., small swords . . . anyway, hoping they will do better with the Flourite-based substrate . . .

It is always good to QT your plants. Less chance of snails.

yes, I do always QT my plants, and I 100% agree that this is a good idea . . . not just for snails, but also because sometime stores keep fish in with the planted tanks, and ich or parasites can be transmitted on plants

Ich is present in most aquariums all the time, healthy fish can fight it off. Ich outbreaks only happen when the fish's immune system weakens.

how do you treat your QT if snails and parasites are present...
"had-a-snail" and penicillin?

Realistically, I only qt for snails, as most parasites will die off if kept in a tank with no live fish. Most fish shops I visit don't keep fish with their plants.

yeah, I wish that were true of mine . . . the ones around here seem to think it will help sales to have fish swimming among the plants . . .

I am in Florida, so when I do a QT of plants, I rinse them and then put them in a small covered tank on our backyard deck . . . as WyldFya says, after several days QT'd without fish, most parasites should be dead

then another rinse and into their new home . . .
