your friend is a tire track eel idk on the one u have...

Is the line shaped differently or something in M. dayi? Becuase my M. armatus used to get the same pale stripe occasionally when he was younger.

If you look real close you can see some spots interupting it.. and yeah i've seen tts with the same lines when young.

OP the tail is very beaten up. I'll see if i can snap a pic of my little guy for you to compare. But i'm still standing by M dayii atm. My experiance with them is also they are very docile comparitively to TTs and are almost always in jun shape because the tts always beat on them at the lfs.

Yeah sorry about the tail. Possibly got beat up at the store. The lady said tire track eels but I only saw a couple, one which my friend snagged up. He hasnt changed much appearance wise and only eats shrimp or blood worms. Not to active either. Do the M. Dayi grow about the same size?

get him eating live blackworms, and chopped up nightcrawlers and he'll explode in size, and health. atm my biggest M dayii is approx 21" and very outgoing and curiouse ( more like a fire eels in personality then a TT) also have a smaller one about 12-14" and my smallest is 6"ish... no clue how big they get but mine haven't slowed down much in growing. don't know if they'll get as big as armatus (3'+) but I'de say at least 24" isn't unreasonable.

bloodworms aren't very good food alone. as a treat its okay, but as a staple it's got little nutrition. mine are very open to new foods, much more so then most the spineys I've owned. krill, nightcrawlers, black worms, mysis shrimp, chunks of fish ( preferablly FW, white fleshed fish. ie walleye, bass, sunfish ect. avoid fatty fish like salmon, I also prefer wild caught over farm raised.. but thats getting very picky.), fw shrimp are all good things to offer.

btw- same would go for a TT or any spiney eel in general

Okay sweet thanks man! I appreciate it. I have only fed him every other day with krill. and i meant to say that frozen mosquito larvae not blood worms. Ill go out this week and get some night crawlers and possibly some shrimp or fish fillets as im sure my catfish will enjoy it also. Thanks again man! Anything else? I will gladly take advice and tips. I love this guy

Would it be worth a shot to try and get him on hikari sinking carnivore pellets?

if hell take pellets go for it! alot of the big eels are fed a mix of pellets, fish fillet, and nightcrawlers. once they big enough to take 1/2 a crawler you can stuff them with pellets and trick them into eating the, sometimes. i would also feed him every day, more if he wants. as juvies imo you cant over feed them, atm my guys are still getting fed every night. the occasional weekend fast ect is fine. make sure he has plenty of hide spots and make sure he isnt getting bullied, keep your water perameters clean and you shouldnt have any issues with jumping either. spineys are notorious jumps so a good lid is worth investing in but if a spiney is dead set on getting out it will ime.
