if hell take pellets go for it! alot of the big eels are fed a mix of pellets, fish fillet, and nightcrawlers. once they big enough to take 1/2 a crawler you can stuff them with pellets and trick them into eating the, sometimes. i would also feed him every day, more if he wants. as juvies imo you cant over feed them, atm my guys are still getting fed every night. the occasional weekend fast ect is fine. make sure he has plenty of hide spots and make sure he isnt getting bullied, keep your water perameters clean and you shouldnt have any issues with jumping either. spineys are notorious jumps so a good lid is worth investing in but if a spiney is dead set on getting out it will ime.
