I'd be concerned about the cichlids not letting the eel take in too much food, or just harrassing it when it comes out

nah ive kept a close eye and i usually put a 3 ft pvc pipe in his cave and drop bloodworms, ghost shrimp, small feeders ect. down the tube and he gets plenty of food and absolutely all of my fish are scared of him, he literally punked out every fish in my tank at once they dont even get within like 5 inches of him when hes out. i was worried about that too but hes doing great.
i have thought about putting a fire eel in with my africans also...my only hesitation is the tank is a 55gal and my gig tank has tsns in it so i can't move it after it out grows the 55gal...how long will it take to out grow the 55gal?....not to steal the thunder
uhh that i have no idea i bought mine when he was already like 12" and hes been in my 120 since then. Im thinking about getting rid of him though because hes cool and all but the hassles arent really worth it. in other words ths cons way out the pros
i love eels there awsome what cons do you see...i see non aside from no having big cats but a 120 can't house a big cat anyway so i say keep it and it is worth it...
the troubles of feeding him because i hvae and awkward tank setup im thinking about selling mine just cause how awkwardly hard it is to feed him where my tanks at.
eels are not easy to feed in tanks that have much more active tankmates, and might need feeding sticks or other devices...that is a big 'con' to me when weighed against positive aspects
I feel my eels bloodworms & pellets in a glass bottle (like a beer/soda bottle). The cichlids are too large to get in so it works well for me and its easy.
my eel is much wider than a beer bottle or anything like that. anything he can fit in most of them can and i think im gonna sell him just cause the cons. I agree with cichlaholics thats the main con for me.

I have an 18" Ellipsifer eel that I feed in a glass bottle that I found at walmart in the cooking supplies/housewares section, its large enough for him but too small for the other fish to get into. I was just using the beer bottle as an example. My only point is that if you get creative you can find ways to feed the eels without it being a hassle.
