Efect of soda bicarbonat on FH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nice looking flowerhorn. i doubt the soda bicarbonate will greatly affect kok. you might want to try on smaller/younge4 specimens, might have more of an effect on growth. hopefully no serious side effects. imo i wouldnt chance it.

Unless a control is done with a good number of test subjects, I'd say it's all hearsay, aside form affecting buffering and PH.

Let me put it this way. If there was a claim that a pill can make a person grow 3-5" taller even after you stop growing, What would come to his/her mind?

If a fish has a hard head, which means that the fish has the gene for a hard head. A hard head means that the head is stable but not as big as a water head. If you want a fish with a big head, spend more money and buy a fish with a big or a water head.

There are no magic pill or ingredient to make the head bigger, not that I know of. In your quest to make your small nuchal hump fish bigger, you might kill it with the pH swing. Just enjoy your fish or buy another one with a big head.
I have heard keeping flowerhorn with a high pH will give the fish the optimium condition for the fish to grow to its full potential, but crush coral is the best option as it is stable.

My fish are fine without any coral, just good water, space, and varied diet.

i got this fish for abour 150$. In India that is big money. The shop owner told me that it will get a big hed, once its grows a littel biger, not sure about him.

I read the beauty of flower horn depends on the upbring, alot. although geens too mattter.

Just need ur sugestions and help. for improving the fish.

I know when u ask for openions, u should be ready for critism.

have already removed the soda, and searching for crushed coral. its dificult to get it here in bangalore.

you do not need crush coral if your water parameter are good. Once you have the crush coral what will you add next? You're putting too much effort into making the fish nuchal hump bigger. Just give him good care and enjoy the hobby.

Just give it some time, you will see more selection of flowerhorn strain.

baking soda is bad choice guys. It doesn't last long, really hard to figure out the right amount to add, and changes PH really fast= TROUBLE!!! As I said in your other post about this bro, higher PH promotes kok growth. Baking soda will do this, but as I stated above, it is BAD choice IMO. Crushed coral will do the same thing and at a slower rate and keep the PH stablized more than the baking soda. It's best to put some in some panty hose and put it directly in the filter, or you can mix it into the gravel.
i have crushed coral in all of my tanks and it doesnt raise my ph at all :irked: could u tell me y that is????

It will raise Ph to a point, and then just buffer ;) buffering means stable ph, no low swings no high swings....

i just think if he is happy the bigger his kok will get if its in hid dna allready him being happy will bring it out and feeding him good also

I do not use coral, but it sounds like you have soft water?
