I was using various panes of glass to cover my sump. Mostly to keep my damn cat out of the water. He liked to get on the rim of the sump to get drinks and it pissed me off. Lol. So I went to lowes and got some egg crate to make a cover.

First picture is how it was covered before.

+1

nice fit Bro! Looks very snug. How much was that eggcrate? Is it 4'x18"?

Go S. Vettel #1 rb8

Thanks. The whole sheet was 48"x24" for $12 from lowes. I only needed 35"x17" for the 40 breeder so I've got some extra to play around with and brainstorm uses for! Lol.

what did you use to cut it?

I tried with scissors first but it seemed to shatter the piece next to the one I was cutting. So I took the blade out of a hack saw and used that. Worked great, it took a little longer than I had hoped but at least it didn't get ruined by using the scissors.

tin snips work well for cutting it too...

but what about the humidity? I did basically the same thing you did, except using plexiglass from home depot. I used a table saw and an exacto knife to cut around the piping for my sump.

I'm not really worried about the humidity. The tank is in my basement and isn't enclosed in a small room. Evaporation doesn't really bother me either. I do a water change every 2-3 days and in that time the water level only drops maybe 1-2" in the pump section of my sump.
