Lookin to upgrade my current setup to some real filtration power, and craigslisted a 2217 for 50 bucks. Jaw hit the floor lol. He said it's a couple years old, but I still don't think I have much to worry about from what I hear around here.

There was also a Rena XP4 for $80, but I think I'd rather have the reliability of the Eheim.

Am I right in this decision? Also, what should I be looking for in terms of bad equipment, and how much equipment should I expect? Canister noob >.>

buy it and send me the XP4

He still has it, so I'm gonna pick it up in a couple days prolly. Anything I need to know about parts that I need beforehand so I don't miss anything? Canister noob here

There are eheim owners on MFK that have eheims that are like 30 years old. As much as I love my FX5 and all, classic eheims are THE most reliable filters around IMO. Yes, that pains me a bit to say it. ;)
Occasionally something like the impeller will wear out, but you're probably 100% fine. I would get it ASAP because it might not last long at that price. Craigslist deals generally go to the first person who shows up.

I have an old Eheim and the one thing I would suggest is to put some vasoline on the seal in the top. It is easy for them to dry if not in use. Just a heads up, they can pinch easily also. With that said, they are GREAT filters.

Hi, i just have a general question in reguards to this filter.

it stroke me quite odd that it was listed to be able to handle up to a 600Litre aquariuim, when it only has 6 Litres of filter volume, and 1000LPH??

How can it possibly filter that much water, such a small filter?

I don't mean to go offtopic, just thought it might be relevant to the person buying this filter aswell.
