Well, are you happy with it? Better than the fluval?

anybody ever tried the media bags? I was thinking in getting some, to make cleaning easier, but they're 10 bucks, and I read a review that they suck.

I was told to only use the media bags when you use non-eheim filter media as often non-eheim media can go up and get stuck through the impeller.

The problem with the 2217, is that unlike my previous 2213, in which all the media is in a basket, that you can just pull out, it is just loose son its a pain to clean.

I thought that this media bags will make it much easier, just pull it off, rinse it, and then put it in again, but what I heard is that they rip easily.

have three running in line on a 135 for over a year know, not a bit of a problem and the water stays crystal clear.

Love them classic filters. I have a 2215 on my 37 gallon and i have crystal clear water. Been running this set up for about half a year with no problem.

I will NEVER run an Eheim classic without a media bag. It makes maintenance half the effort. The media bags are the way to go. I use them in all 4 of my FX5's as well.

ps - glad your happy Joe!

A couple people have told me to just buy a bag designed for washing delicates in instead of buying $10 media bags. They're supposed to be half the price, or less. I keep meaning to try it, but never remember to pick one up. The couple times I've had to remove media, I just pour the whole canister out into a colander over a bucket. It's not a big deal. If you lay it sideways and scoop it out with your hands instead of just pouring it, it's easy to keep the different medias separated.

also-
I love my 2217. Best filter I've ever even. As long as the size is appropriate, I'd take an eheim classic over any other filter on the market. I think you'll be happy with it!
