ummm 9 years why? i never really gotten into the filteration thing tell today so if thats why you asked, then ill tell you. i dont know ANYTHING about canister filters.. i know a lil about HOBs but thats it.

You have kept fish for nine years without knowing anything about filters?

only think i new was to replace the filter cartilage and do water change and make sure my test were on track. i dont know anything about my Eheim 2250 other then cleaning it. i dont know what kind of media i have in it still. will post pics this weekend when i clean it.

:wall:

dude i just recently got the eheim with the tank a few months ago. before then i never new a thing about canisters. i dont even know the type of filter media im useing... give me some slack, going to research on my eheim right now.....

You should have done research before you got it. All you need if padding and rings.

For what it's worth lbf, i'm glad you're doing some research. do you have any friends here that you can pm before you decide to make a thread and seek help? i like to bounce ideas and questions off several people and if i need more help or we're stumped, i make a thread. i still managed to make myself look stupid but it cuts down on how often i do it = )

it is a forum so i'm not saying don't make threads. just an idea

dont know much people that run eheims on here. and i got the tank and filter and everything else for 65 buxs didnt even know i was going to get an eheim tell i saw it there.

I've got 2 Eheim filters on my tank.

Those "ceramic rings" are possibly Ehfimec. That's your mechanical filtration.
Just use those and Ehfi Substrat Pro for biological filtration, no carbon. You could also use a filter pad with it.

Cabron is useless as hell, and even the story about carbon causing HITH is true, since I've experienced it myself. Carbon in the tank, Jack Dempsey got HITH, removed carbon, HITH gone.
