eheim 2250

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have ran a classic before, a 2215 is just a small version of the 2250. They are one of the easiest filters ever to get to grips with. Water goes in via the bottom of the bucket and the pump sucks the water through the media. Very simple with almost zero bypass.

*You don't need carbon unless you are removing medication or an accidental chemical spill.

*Put coarse sponge on the bottom of the 2250, then ceramic rings/lava rock/any bio media. The coarse sponge will keep the bio cleaner for longer.

*Add fine sponge after the bio if you want that extra layer.

*Then fill with filter floss or poly matting or 100 micron pad cut to size. This will polish your water at the final stage.

*Then add a coarse/fine sponge so none of the poly fibres get sucked into the pump and disrupt your impeller.

Note: As per Ballin's idea you can pm me if you want before you make a thread. I don't mind trying to help you.

Filtration is broken down into 3 groups. These groups won't change if you use HOB's, Canisters, internals, etc...

Mechanical- filter floss, matting, 100micron pads, etc... provide primarily mech. filtration, simply removes debris from the aquarium water.

Bio(aka: Benificial Bacteria or BB)- this is the important one that all tanks/ponds HAVE to have. This can be in the form of bio-balls, ceramic rings, polimers (ie: Purigen), scrubbies, sponges, lava rock, army men...you get the picture. All these do is provide a place for AEROBIC bacterial to grow, this bacteria feeds off of fish waste(poo and urine) and breaks this down to less harmful products. (Ammonia-Nitrite-Nitrate-base minerals) nitrates can only reliably be removed with regular water changes.

Only wash/rinse bio media in tank water to preserve the bacteria onboard.

Chemical-This is where carbon and ammo chips fit in, this is usually the last line of defense as none of these chemicals are found in the fishes water naturally and all chemical filtration should be used sparingly and with much research first. The only exception I can think of is chlorine removers used in tap water to remove the chemicals in residential drinking water. (IMHO)

Carbon is used to remove odors and medications, just like your drinking water filter at home.

Your canister uses mechanical as a first stage(as stated above) and bio as a second stage, then by adding floss or poly to the top, more mechanical for crystal clear water. Your HOB's used the same principals, but use a sponge or bio wheel for the bio filtration.

ummm i think there was originally a bigger pump on my eheim.... the slot where the pump goes is a heck of alot bigger and the pump is smaller, plus theres 4 screw holes where the bigger pump was suppose to go....

So why aren't you selling your tank and set up? i don't think i caught it...is it because you MIGHT get a job but haven't yet?

I think maybe you should just settle down on what you are going to do and stop. You seem to always want to change things up or do something you may have read, but in reality this isnt that difficult. At least not for what a lot of us are trying to do. I know you have blah blah about water changes and heater and crap..

But you should just keep stuff the way it is, and forget about it. Do water changes weekly, change the canister every few months, not weekly like you have been, and keep it heated around 78 ish. If you really cant do these things and keep coming up w reasons or excuses why not, then either stop keeping fish until you can fill your tank and do water changes, or just pick what you are going to do, be satisfied and realize MFK is not life. Pretty much just chill

I also missed this, last post I saw on one of your countless other threads about the same thing was you were selling your tank. That was the 20th @ 7:32 pm. Then @ 8:36 you started a new thread about your floor.

I know this is a public forum, and you have the right to do what you want in the context of the rules, but it has gotten out of hand.

Can a mod please PM me a reason as to why this is tolerated. thank you
