i will be using these filters in my ray tank which is 6x3x2 and wondered which filter is the best except i am fussy and dnt want to waste money!!

basically i need a filter which is easy to clean out of the FX5 and the 2260 which is easiest and in your opinion the best?

any help would be good.

I am guessing the Eheim will be easer to clean. This is not the only feature you wan't to know though.

The Eheim's max flow is 390 GPH where as the Fx5 is around 600 GPH.

Its a tough call, The Eheim with 15L of bio media and 5L of mechanical media blows the Fx5's 5L of bio media out of the water. Its just sad that the eheim doesn't have a higher flow rate, especially with the 15L of media. Ehiem just won't break that 400 GPH barrier except for one 900gph (at zero head) filter

You have a 193 gallon tank. 2 cycles an hour with the Eheim vs 3 cycles an hour with the Fx5

In this case, I would go with the Ehiem 2260. Its the same price if not a little more than the Fx5 and you get the media too. The fx5 doesn't come with media so you will be spending about that in media after buying the fx5.

So, I would go with the Eheim in this case.

Unless you wan't to modify the Fx5 Internally which would give you 13-15L of bio media and a 600 GPH flow rate :) Sounds better, but its up to you.

Right out of the box, Eheim and a couple power heads

thats what i was thinking. at the moment on another tank i have a 2026 pro2 eheim and its good to clean with baskets takes about 2 mins but its not man enough. i think i will go with the eheim and a large powerhead. thanks for the reply. more would be good. thanks

Eheim all the way....

( but, then, I am in Europe...)

EDIT: nevermind, just misunderstood the last post

I run both on my tank and love it...Personally I find the FX5 easier to clean.

So my answer is buy one of each your charges will love you for it!:headbang2

I would do eheim, it not only has more surface area for bacteria, it also is a eheim wich means it will run without problems for many years.

The turnover is unimportant as long as you don't have a ton of junk in your water, bio filtration is what is needed most. If the 2260 is not enough flow, then go with the 2262.

Turn over is important. You wouldn't put a 80 GPH filter with 15L of bio media on a 200 Gallon tank would you? or a 300 GPH filter on a 800 gallon tank?
