EHEIM 2260 or FX5???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The 2262 ( which has the 1262 pump ) has a max head of 12 feet.[/quote
Right but max head means that is the point at which the pump can no longer pump water out of the hose because the head pressure will be to great.

Most of the time, the GPH rating you see on filters and pumps are at ZERO head. Once you start adding head height, 2-4' can drastically change the total output.

According too......... ?

All the rubbish reviews online! Over rated filter which will fail after few years if that. Just google eheim 2080 vs FX5 reveiw.

The comment below was from some testing them and had 5 out of 6 break down after little use. I'll let make your mind up.

EDIT : MARCH 2008
I've had no less then 5 ...yep 5 out of 6 FX5's exhibit problems with simply stopping all together or clogging after only a couple of weeks resulting in very slow flowrates.
I now have only 1 FX5 in operation out of the original 6.
I have had zero problems or issues with the Eheims.
I must conclude that the Fluvals are not nearly the same quality as the Eheims.

My eheim 2260 must be 5 years old and never missed a beat or needed any parts, like to see anyone say that about a FX5.

Another thing i'll add is I beleive your FX5s in the USA are slightly different to those here....?

That review you quoted is rubbish. That was a huge stab at Hagen. 5 out of 6 fx5s simply stopped all together or clogged?

What is what? did 1 clog or did 4 clog? did 3 clog and 2 fail? did 4 fail and 1 clog? Really, horrible review. Complain about clogging? Many agree the filter will clog easily but this is due to the small cross section surface area in the center baskets and the real high flow rate. This only means the filter is cleaning the water faster. Obveously with almost double the flow rate of the 2080.

there are PLENTY of GOOD Reviews online for the fx5. I don't know where you are getting your reviews. Many have had them for over 4 years. Mine has been running for over 3 years. I have had it for 1 year, the pump is used.

I do admit that when they first came out, there were some rocky starts but Hagen has resolved a lot of those issues.

My Fluval 304 has been running for 10+ years without issues.

I have THREE!! Fx5s running for over 4 years now! and i have NEVER had a SINGLE problem with ANY of them.Maybe there are alot of bad reviews on the Fx5 because people dont know how to install them properly and maintan them.

I SECOND THE INSTALLATION PART!!!!!

The Fx5 I got with my 180 gal purchase (which I sold recently) the guy installed the hoses backwards. Instead of putting the end with the rubber coupling adheared to the hose on the valves, he just tried to force the ribbed hose itself over the valve ends and never secured them!

He also used pre-filter ceramic stuff in the filter for bio media. Wrong media. I know he was having issues with Ammonia because he gave me ammo lock and Amquil or soemthing.

What a moron. Installation is a big problem I bet. Maybe we need a HOW TO INSTALL A FX5 thread. haha.

Definitely Eheim for me........ Not even a decision.

Primarily, the build quality of Eheim is the basis of my decision. The huge bio-capacity is a plus, and the ability to upgrade flow with a 1262 pump is nice. Keep in mind that most filters rate flow with empty canisters while Eheim's flow is based on actual uses.

Honestly, you probably can't go wrong either way, but I prefer the peace of mind you get with Eheim.

Same with the Fx5

What type of pump does it have out of the box?

Also, the 1262 pump is about $130 added to the expense of the 2080. Plus it consumes 80w of power. You will probubly get between 650-750 GPH with that pump with head heights between 4-6' and media.
