Eheim 2262 or FX5 for a 300g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the 300 has slots in the back for HOBs... I would get 2 used AC110's and 1 used FX5 or 405 if your budget is $250. 2 used ACs and 1 405 will hold more media and use less electricity than 1 FX5. I currently run 2 FX5 on my tank but had to remove 2 trays from one of my FX5 to make it hold more bio-rings.

On my 300 I have two FX5's with ceramic and sponges inside and a 60 gallon sump connected to a 30W UV sterilizer.
Does the trick.
I also have two FX5's on my 150 so I have running spare if one on the 300 needs service.
I really like the Fluval for ease of operation and maintenance.
Good luck

Just do both. Spare yourself the headache.

Howdy,

as stated above, I run 2x 2262 on a 220 gal. Couldn't be happier. No complaints about the flow rate, I do not need more. Slower flow means more contact time with the media, and a 2262 holds ton of it.

As for electricity use, get real.

Electricity costs (on my bill)
$0.18 per kWh

2262 per day = 80W x 24h = 1920 Wh = $0.35/day
FX5 per day = 50W x 24h = 1200 Wh = $0.22/day

... I pay much more than that for fish food alone, and about three times as much for lighting just that one tank.

Sorry if it is the wrong place.

I just bought an FX5. Run into a problem, seems to be a common one. It has that loud rattling noise coming from the motor. I took the impeller out cleaned it out put it back in but still no luck.

Is there anyway to fix it without buying a new motor?

Thanks.

eheim for sure!!!!!!

Thanks for the advise I will probably have to keep the sump on with a small pump (currently have a quiet one 6000 and another 1100gph pump) and have the canister as well. The sump is terrible at mechanical filtration no matter what I do to it. A filter sock will block in less than 2 days. My fish are messy eaters.

Two thoughts

1) turn off your pumps for feedings and

2) split your drain to 2 socks and place a 200 micron inside a 100 ( or 100 inside a 50). The beauty of filter socks is it's takes about 13 seconds to pull off a dirty one and replace with a new one. Wash in the washing machine in hot water and enjoy your tank.
