It may be due to the size of the intake pipe as well as how a particular model Eheim operates. From Eheim's website it states ' For all EHEIM external filters (apart from professionel 3e and classic 1500XL)' but I also see on other sites that sell it is not recommended for the 2227/29 model wet/dry filter.
