Hydro V's. Do you use the pond Hydro V's or the Aquarium ones?

Both. I have some Azoo ones to but I had to modify them.

I have a couple Liberty filters that have been running trouble free for several years. I don't use the eheim cartridges though because they clog up so quickly. What I do is cut out the filter media and just use the frame with a chunck of aquaclear sponge (ac300 fits exactly, I think) wedged in it. Much more surface area and less by-passing. They don't seem to have the same flow rates as ac's but they get the job done.

I'm actually in the process of making a small wet/dry

nice! a miniature wet/dry! cool!!
post pic when you are done =)
maybe i could copy your idea and make one for myself. lol!

I have one running on a fry tank (liberty) and it has worked good for me. But as someone said it doesn't do much for bio. One good thing though, is that you could have this thing 3' away and not even know its on. I can hear my heater turn on and off more than the filter. But since you mentioned sponge filters... screw the Eheim. More sponges!

The reason your co2 stinks is because of your wet dry filter. The use of a wet dry filter, and the desire, or need, for high levels of co2, requires pressurized co2.
