Ive got a Eheim 2180,I can't get the darn thing to work! Priming it was not a problem, but when I plug it in,I can hear the impeller working, but there is no flow from it at all. I have tried everything I can think of to get it flowing with no luck.I now have it in the kitchen trying to get it going in the sink,I got tired of messing with it under the tank. Like I said, getting it primed is easy. But once I plug it in,the intakes are just not sucking in any water. The adapter is seated like it should be,it would not prime if wasn't.I might try to shorten the hose on the spray bar,and see what that does.I can't imagine a little slack in them would cause it not to function at all,but I'll see. I have it hooked up to a UV,and there is quite a bit of extra hose going from that to the spray bar.

Anybody got a idea of why I can't get this thing to flow???

Did you put all the gaskets on the spraybar and intake and check them?

do you have the valves open?

Have you tried to suck water through the hoses to make sure it flows easily?
I have done all of these. Thanks for the suggestions.

The filter has no problem priming,it is full of water. But when I turn it on,it does not pull any water through the filter, but the temp reading turns on,and I can hear a hum from it like the impeller is running. If I take the hose off the spray bar and drop it bellow the tank, water siphons out it. So doesn't this mean it is set up right? The only way for the water to siphon out the spray bar hose is for the water to be going through the intakes,I think. I really think the problem is something I have overlooked, but just can't figure it out. I have taken all of the water out of the filter 3 times now,re-primed it,and it still won't pump water through the filter like it is supposed to. I'm at a loose for what to do now.:irked:

Screw caps tight on intakes? You could pour some water down the intakes where the screw caps are other than that the only thing I can suggest is to check the impeller but I have never removed mine

Tried that too. Thanks for the suggestion.

I Emailed Eheim to see what they have to say.

Did you physically prime it or did natural siphon fill the cannister? I know someone else asked this but is the valve open and operating correctly?

I had a problem once with a 2080 getting prime and had to open both caps on the returns and keep filling one until the other overflowed. Then replaced both caps tightly and gave the primer button a few pushes till some air bubbles came out the strainers. With two returns one could still be air trapped. HTH.

I pushed the lever to prime it. I haven't got bubbles to come out the strainers, but bubbles do come out the spray bar. Both of the return hoses are full of water, but I'll try taking off the caps and filling one until the other overflows. Thanks for the tip.

Valves are open and as far as I can tell are operating correctly.

How much water did you have to pour down the return? Did you leave the cap on the spay bar while doing this?

I can see there is air in both return tubes now. Just not sure how to get it out.
I'll keep pouring water down one.......
