Hi

I am seriously thinking about buying this filter, but before i make my wife very unhappy:grinno:, do any out there have any experience with this filter??
I have tried searching the net, but not much luck..

Or should i just go for the standard pro3??

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Greatly depends on the size of the tank, and what you want to do with it. I have 2 pro 3e's, and 1 pro 3 running, and the 3e's have definite benefits, but not the ability of the pro 3. If I were to choose a big filter though, I'd go with an Eheim 2262. This is a much better filter than the Eheim 2080/2180.

Thanks for the fast response!

Well, i am planning to run it on my 100 gallon tank together with my present cascade 1000 filter and a aquaclear 110 (when i find a way to hang it on my acrylic tank).
I realize it might border on over kill..but more is better:D

When you say that the pro3e is not as cable as the pro3, what exactly do you mean?

I have both the 2262 and the 2180 and i dont think that the 2262 is better. realistically they should be used for different applications and either one are probably the best filter you could ever own

Different applications? Mech for one bio for the other or something?

the 2180 isnt as easy to pack with alternative media in net bags as the 2262, so if you plan on using many different media combinations that is the one for you. On the other hand if you are keeping rays or eels and dont want to worry about a heater in the tank for danger of harming the rays or eels then that is the reason i like the 2180. The reliability is still bullet proof. In fact i find it amusing how some people think that because there is a heater built in that it would be less reliable. In fact everyone always raves about ebo jager heaters and why would you think that eheim wouldnt engineer the same quality into a heating element as they would the rest of their equipment?.

Out of curiosity, what kind of media do you pack in mesh bags?

I use many of the Eheim models (including the Pro III), but I put all my chemical media in separate reactors.

purigen, which i use religously. phosban which is a phosphate remover and other things of that nature.
