purigen, which i use religously. phosban which is a phosphate remover and other things of that nature.

I love Purigen too....... Makes a big difference. I use the prefilled bags in a small reactor. Do you use the small (100ml) bags or do you fill your own?

The main reason I use the reactor is so I can break it down without having to break down the entire canister. It also makes it easy to see how exhausted it is becoming.

the 2180 isnt as easy to pack with alternative media in net bags as the 2262, so if you plan on using many different media combinations that is the one for you. On the other hand if you are keeping rays or eels and dont want to worry about a heater in the tank for danger of harming the rays or eels then that is the reason i like the 2180. The reliability is still bullet proof. In fact i find it amusing how some people think that because there is a heater built in that it would be less reliable. In fact everyone always raves about ebo jager heaters and why would you think that eheim wouldnt engineer the same quality into a heating element as they would the rest of their equipment?.
You can buy inline heater that are far more capable than the eheim jagers. Eheim jagers are built to a far lower standard than the old ebo-jagers.

I have both the 2262 and the 2180 and i dont think that the 2262 is better. realistically they should be used for different applications and either one are probably the best filter you could ever own
I disagree. Both filters are meant to be large canisters. If you want to run chemical medias, you will be better off running it in an aquaclear.

Thanks for the fast response!

Well, i am planning to run it on my 100 gallon tank together with my present cascade 1000 filter and a aquaclear 110 (when i find a way to hang it on my acrylic tank).
I realize it might border on over kill..but more is better:D

When you say that the pro3e is not as cable as the pro3, what exactly do you mean?
The 2076 and 2078 are far smaller canisters, and thus cannot handle as much bio-load.

Why do you think the 2262 is the better filter?
The 2262 has more space for media, a larger volume, and the ability to have the pump switched for a lesser powered pump if desired. It also can turn over approximately double the water per hour.

Yes, but per hour turnover isn't really important in bio-filtration. It would increase the likelihood of particulate capture though.

Don't you think the 2 intakes on the Pro III is better than the one of the 2262?

I just prefer to have as few pieces of equipment as possible. I mean at this point there really isnt a right or a wrong way of doing this, all of our methods have been proven to work. In fact on this particular subject either choice and you cant go wrong. I think at this stage it really is personal preferences that dictate our choices. Heck if eheim made a piece of equipment that had one plug that did everything filtration, heating, lighting and whatever else was needed I would buy it. LOL. If its eheim I am buying it. Havent had a bad experience in over 25 yrs with them. As far as purigen in my canister I put a litre in a net bag regardless of the tank size (all my tanks range in size from 175 to 400) and just run the filters I open the canisters maybe twice a year and thats it.
Been doing it that way for years seems to work fine. some of you may think i am nuts but hey it works. water changes every 2 weeks i use my ro 400 gpd unit to make my water and all is good.

wyldfya, I agree with you 100% ebo jaeger being much better than the eheim jaeger but i dont use i either i use the thermal eheim canisters since they came out, never had 1 failure or problem with any of them in all the different size ranges so for me it works out just fine and one less piece of equipment i need.

the pro 3e or 2180/2080 are a bit easier to clean.. that s the only advantage they have on the 2260 etc range (plus of course the 2180 housing a heater, which is a pity the 2260 does not have the the thermo version) since they have 8 or ten thumb screws that are quite a pain to unscrew and screw back. i use a plier to lock/unlock the screws.

do the 2076/78 come as thermo versions? they would suit my needs better since they are smaller than the 2180, so more practical to house under the cabinet

The 2262 has 2 intakes, and one is a 1 1/4 tubing rather than the 16/22MM tubing that the 2080 uses. The biggest downfall of many of the eheim filters is the lack of mech filtration. The higher flow rate will accommodate the mech filtration, and the huge canister can support far more media, over 18,300 sq feet more.
