the pro 3e or 2180/2080 are a bit easier to clean.. that s the only advantage they have on the 2260 etc range (plus of course the 2180 housing a heater, which is a pity the 2260 does not have the the thermo version) since they have 8 or ten thumb screws that are quite a pain to unscrew and screw back. i use a plier to lock/unlock the screws.

do the 2076/78 come as thermo versions? they would suit my needs better since they are smaller than the 2180, so more practical to house under the cabinet
Hydor makes a far better heater IMO than Eheim for being inline. When my 2262 was running, I had a hydor 300W heater inline on the smaller intake.

i used hydors, but in the last year i had to change four of them(under warranty) because they fail for no apparent reason. i followed the instructions to the book but they dont last more than 2 months, and they always fail on a weekend. i go the following monday to buy one to replace one of the burnt ones until a new one is given to me under warranty. but they never last more than two months.. i had two installed on different filters and they both failed at the same time.:(

I have 2 eheim canisters with the heaters built in. One on a saltwater tank and one on a freshwater tank. Both have now failed. I am now going to switch to the hydors.
