Eheim Sucks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just got 3 of the 300 Watt heaters back a little while ago so we will see if they are worth it it not. They look well built but I do really like the fluval pro heaters I have but they just don't put out the power these do.

OP, did you calibrate your heaters?

I'm not a fanboy, but while you've had experienced only one used ecco line filter, you bash the whole eheim product lines, "...I've had it with their products. Everyone speaks so highly of them, but all my experience with them has been one disappointment after another..." I don't think that's fair. Impeller doesn't last forever you know although my classics seem to last very long time.

4 out of my 5 eheim classic's were bought used because I trust their motors and like the overall simple design, and they're still running like a champ for 3 years+ with no replacement part yet.

That's 4 separate items from them that hasn't worked for me. 3 Heaters and a Filter. To me, it doesn't matter if it's 1 heater and 3 filters...the fact is their products has been unsatisfactory. I've had my Fluvals for over 5 years without having to replace an impellers (still haven't bought a new impeller for them)...I admit that impeller covers are crap on the Fluval 4 series and I have to get replacements on those every so ofter, but parts are cheap to buy. The impeller on the Ecco lasted less than a year and cost over $30. I don't think that I should be buying a new impeller every year as part of maintenance, do you?

Ive actually thought about buying a couple of Eheim Classics because everyone talked so highly of Eheim products, but now I hesitate to buy anymore products from them...in fact I'm probably not going to buy anything from them as their products are expensive and if they are as faulty as the 4 items I used before, then no thanks.

I've got two eheim jager 250w and both temp dial seem to bit difficult to set to the right temp and yeah it does seem to heat over what I set it for. Also just purchased a classic 2215 canister but no probs so far (knock on wood).

I have 3 eheim 2028s, 2 eheim jager 300W heaters and a eheim 2262.

The 2028s I have run for 6 years and the rest about 8 month. All works great with only exception of an O ring on my 2028 needed to be replaced.

The filters in particular are quiet and need very low maintenance...like once in year maintenance...I am pretty happy with their products.

Ehiem jagers require calibration. You set to temp u want and monitor the temp to see what it gets the tank temp to. Then you adjust the secondary dial to match that temp. Then readjust to your desired temp and you should be good. Its in the instructions

Wish I'd come across this thread sooner.I just ordered a Jager 300 watt heater from Fosters and Smith and I might have have gone with a different brand if I was aware of all of the complaints about them.

Had bad experience with all three of the eheim filters I owned a couple pro series and one classic. So I'll never spend the outragous amount for one of there big filters. Hard to beat the value for the dollar with an FX5

I think this thread could work for every company. I've seen many complaints lately about the fx5 filters and fluvals. I have an old school eheim canister but it needs tubing and all that but I'm gonna go to lowes instead of ordering replacements. I've had my jager heater for about 8 months now and I love it. I love its length so it covers my 75 well to distribute the heat. Its sucks when equipment fails which is why I've started going with some lower name equipment. I currently have a cascade 1000 canister filter and my friend has the 1200 and a cascade HOB filter and we love then. I've also heard good things about their heaters too.

2262 is twice the price but three times the filter capacity...and very much less maintenance...I find that to be a better value in larger tanks.
