Eheim vs Fluval

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got the 2180 with the heater, awsome filter. I set it up during a mini cycle and a few days later my frontosa spawned, the built in heater keeps every thing stable and the bio mec filtation is awsome. tis filter is a beast!

I have it on a 180 gal oceanic with 11 , 5-6+ in frontosa, I dont pay too much attention to flow rates but pay more attention to the bio mec volume and time the water stays in the canister. the larger the volume and the ability to adjust the flow is a big plus on the eheim. I keep my flow around 50% on my tank, this keeps the stress levels low on my fish and the water/media contact time is longer as the water flowes through this beast.

Neither, I would go with two smaller filters. It sounds as if you have both cost and space issues, so buying two of either filter is out. I would never trust the stock of my tank to a single filter, no matter what the brand.

Cost is a little bit of a factor however I would rather I got a good quality filter like an eheim or fluval, instead of the el cheapo one I got now.

Go with a pair of eheim 2217s

ive owned the fluval 303's and filstar canisters, believe me the eheims are worth the extra money. I looked at the fx5's and decided the bigger bio volume was worth it. the only thing that would match it is a messy wet dry system
