The 2080 is rated upto a 300gal. That should be enough for my 190 gal.

Search my posts for "2080" and you'll find out why a 2080 is good for 70 gal but not much more.

Go with a pair of eheim 2217s

Two 2217 are again fine for 70 gal, but not more. A 2260 or 2262 is in place for his 190 gal.

trust me on this ..eheim is nice but its leak alot

I have had Eheims for almost 30 years and the only leak I ever had was caused by user error. Eheim gives an excellent warranty, which you should take advantage of if it's indeed craftsmanship that causes the leak in your case.

I might have a good Fx5 soon. I think it is good because the pump is at the bottom.

Eheims have the pump on top of the canister, which protects your impeller from damages by sand or other materials. Just something to consider.

Didn't consider that. Gees. I guess i'll have to get whatever is available then get the other one later down the road.

Thanks to everyone for the help on this thread.

sand can still damage the impeller no matter what. my impeller got ***ed up 2 months ago by sand. i was able to fix it thankfully. the impeller on the FX 5 is alot better then any Eheims.

Good thinking;)

EHEIM 2260 for Bio and if/when you can afford it get a Fluval FX5 (a.k.a. Oversized Sponge).

Remember, mechanical filtration is indeed rather pointless when it comes to fish survival. Unless you are using something like a skimmer that actually removes the waste from the water, it is just holding it in one place, it still decays. Given a tank with no mechanical filtration would be nasty looking, many people go overboard. If you want mechanical, buy a cheap 20" filter housing and throw in a 100 or 50 micron filter (they sell them down to 1 micron).

Okay, maybe I was a bit harsh on the FX5 but I think Bio is priority over polished water. Then again, those sponges hold BB so...

i know 13 year olds that could afford it, however that's not the point... you shouldn't rush into things if u cant afford to do the best u can. one of those filters on a 190 gallon is not enough or at least shouldn't be enough. don't tell people to '' watch '' themselves when their just trying give very very appropriate advice. im just trying to help :chillpill:
werd this kids a bit touchy :headbang2Go with the FX5 the 2080 really wont have the flow you will need. I am a big eheim fan but I must admit after seeing HarleyK's experience it is a simple decision to go for the FX5 for budget massive filtration.

Never heard of that happening! What model Eheim, and what media did you use?

LOL...

I'll be going with the Fx5. I've found someone that is selling theirs so i'll ask for that one. My birthday is this weekend so hopefully I get enough b'day money to get it. I've managed to revive my filter so it's going, but not strongly. The way it is I would want to use it for the main filter in the tank.
