I'm running the larger version of the 2227 wet/dry (the 2229) on my 135G and haven't had any problems with it at all. That's the tank I've got my Fahaka in, so water quality is absolutely important (as compared to other tanks where it's not? eh...).
I also run two Eheim 2028s on that tank for mechanical filtration and the same can be said about those two that everyone's been saying about the quality of these filters. I've never used either the Fluval or the Rena canisters, but I have had experience with the Magnum 350s. It's like night and day the difference in quality between these guys - I literally have to do a flow check every now and again in my aquarium to make sure my Eheims are runnnig because of the fact that they're so quiet. That's not a knock on the pushing power of these guys either - they really do move quite a bit of water.
Oh yeah - the quick disconnect valves are invaluable - it's so easy to pop the tops off of these guys to get inside and rinse the included filter pad off.
If you've got the cash (or can get 'em for cheap), the Eheims are definately worth it IMO.
