Eheim

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm running the larger version of the 2227 wet/dry (the 2229) on my 135G and haven't had any problems with it at all. That's the tank I've got my Fahaka in, so water quality is absolutely important (as compared to other tanks where it's not? eh...). :)

I also run two Eheim 2028s on that tank for mechanical filtration and the same can be said about those two that everyone's been saying about the quality of these filters. I've never used either the Fluval or the Rena canisters, but I have had experience with the Magnum 350s. It's like night and day the difference in quality between these guys - I literally have to do a flow check every now and again in my aquarium to make sure my Eheims are runnnig because of the fact that they're so quiet. That's not a knock on the pushing power of these guys either - they really do move quite a bit of water.

Oh yeah - the quick disconnect valves are invaluable - it's so easy to pop the tops off of these guys to get inside and rinse the included filter pad off.

If you've got the cash (or can get 'em for cheap), the Eheims are definately worth it IMO. :grinno:

Anyone have any exp with Eheims wet dry 2227? I can get one for $140 new. Are they really good biological filters?
Thanks again
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the wet/dry filters.

Sorry for dragging this thread out but is tha 2250 as reliable and time proven as the 2217? Im just asking because I can get one for $175 and it has twice the media as the 2217. Yes, my budget has gone from $100 to $200.
Also is the Eheim lava media any good ?
Thanks again

Well I have the 2260, the big brother to 2250. I love mine & yes it is proven over time to be very reliable. I know the 2260 is going for $299 new without media. I'd get it if I could.

Very good filter, same basic design as the 2217. The Ehfisubstrat is good, but the Ehfisubstrat pro is much better.

Eheim 2217 online can be had for $100. They are much cheaper than most of the filters you listed.

I love my 2217's, I have two plus a 2017 (20+ years old!). They are quiet (we've got one on the bedroom tank) and fairly easy to clean with the included shutoffs/unions.
